Oasis of the Seas

I just returned yesterday from 2 1/2 days on the Oasis. There are not enough descriptive words in the English language to describe her. She is not a ship - she is a floating resort!!! The tech innovations on this vessel are nothing short of unbelievable! The attention to detail is astounding. She may be large, but it doesn't feel like that when you're on board. It truly feels like you are at a very fancy resort. Every corner has something to amaze you. I was not on board 15 minutes when I discovered the electronic, touch-screen GPS directories located at every elevator. There are maps, directions, venue happenings, daily compass listings, even restaurant capacity at the time you are looking at this, so you know which restaurants are crowded! And, you have 6 different languages you can get this information.

The art work is nothing short of breath taking. You'll be walking along and all of a sudden you stop and see something amazing. The photo system they have for getting your photos is also a magnificent use of space and ease. They have towers with numbers on them and boxes in the towers. Your "assigned" box is listed on your key card. When you have a photo taken, they scan your card into the camera and then put your finished photo in your box. No more searching for your photo on a huge wall with hundreds of other passengers looking for theirs.

You have a personal calendar that you can bring up on your in-stateroom TV. It will list everything you have reservations for on any particular day. They are offering WOW (i-phones) phones that you can rent for the week ($35) that act as GPS systems so you can locate your party anywhere on the ship with the touch of a screen. You can make entertainment and dining reservations right from the phone. You can also check restaurant capacity too, so you know which restaurants are full before you go anywhere.

The Central Park is stunning. I sat in the park one evening for about a 1/2 hour just listening to Christmas music that came from hidden speakers in the garden...all alone. I couldn't believe I was alone on a ship with lots of people.

The entertainment area is the best idea anyone has had. Having all the night clubs in one area is great. No more running from one end of the ship to see a show in the main theater then hi tailing it back to the other end of the ship to see a show in a smaller lounge area.

I could go on and on, but I'm sure you'll all hear about the beauty of this ship. You can't help but be impressed with this vessel. And as a travel agent, I will market this, not as a ship, but as a floating resort. This is for the cruiser that have "been there, done that" and for those that never wanted to take a "cruise" and prefer land resorts, because it truly is a floating resort. And, Robert Tussey, this is not a ship that you "Sit, drink, walk park, watch shows". It's a fun destination where you can have a great time doing a variety of activities and enjoying the beauty of a spectacular engineering marvel. Don't think they have bingo, though...

I'm back on her January 9th and am counting the days.....

PS. And by the way, the much touted advertising of "getting you from your car to your stateroom in 20 minutes" is true. The new terminal is the most efficient use of space and people moving. Great design!
